Back in the day, after his gig in California with Jane Fonda, John Calu came home to Trenton and sang and danced and directed his way to local fame as the author of a musical review and promoter of the arts.

On Saturday between noon and 2 p.m. at Eric Maywar’s Classic Books, 117 S. Warren St. in downtown Trenton, Calu and co-author David A. Hart will be signing their new book, a novel named simply “Trenton.”

It tells a tale based on the Revolutionary War exploits of the family of Hopewell’s John Hart, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who was an ally of George Washington, and reveals a secret from those years that figures into the plot line after the book fast forwards to modern day Trenton.

Calu and Hart, a descendent of John Hart, have been working together as writers since 2003, when famed local guitar rocker Ernie White brought them together and told them to get to work.
